ORIGINALLY A fishing boat for the Pucciarelli Brothers, the tug became a floating tattoo parlor after one of them lost a leg and began pursuit of a more profitable and less dangerous profession.

The Brothers began advertising shows of “tattoo’d freaks” to attract more traffic to their small island home. Soon people were coming just for the freaks, so they expanded their sideshow to include other oddities. And so, the Pooch Brothers Circus was born.

The tug has long since sunk to a watery grave. But Michael (Pooch) Pucciarelli, heir to the island property, is keeping the spirit alive at a parlor in Lake Worth, Florida. Altered State Tattoo has attracted the interest of many tattoo publications for their unmatched, award-winning ink. Altered State is open 12-10 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.
